    The point most people miss is just that their main focus should be learning in class rather than learning later on. Notes arent the essential part of the learning process, the teacher explaining the topic is. At least for me, notes are just the solidification of my just gained knowledge (in class) I can look at later when I want to study and be like "oh yeah I remember that". I have a good summary of everything witten out while my main focus is having listened in class. Thoughts?

    I came up with this flow modoro idea myself - tried pomodoro and found that it totally derailed me when I was at my most focussed and in the groove. So I took note of how long I could go without needing a break, when my concentration was flagging, and it turned out it was anything from 15 to 80 minutes. You just have to be aware of the signs and take the break at the most appropriate time. I also found that a study session of as little as 15 minutes could be really valuable - but you need to be aware of when you might need to limit it to that so you can choose an appropriate task.

    This seems perfect to establish relationships between concepts an learn how they interact with eachother in a broader way. However, in some classes (I'm in Electrical Engineering, so I'm talking from my own experience) I need to lear and remeber certain definitions (sometimes long ones), graphs, equations and their respective mathematical proofs, and I've always struggled to put all of this in a mind map where all topics seem to be reduced to a few words or sketches. Is there a way to satisfy all of these needs and "requirements" in a mind map like the one you presented? Great work, btw!

    One of the most helpful videos on mind mapping (rather chunk mapping). The examples at the end are the best part! I have a question though. Once I've made a chunk map how do I revise using that chuck map? Do I review it and memorise the parts that I have forgotten? Or is there another way? I know from the interleaving table that chunk maps can be used to revise Declarative knowledge. But I get confused about HOW to use them for revision of Declarative knowledge (like Business Law content)?

    Hey Archer I have watched several of Justin sung's video and in his videos he talks about reading the parts that are relevant I have learned that we must have an intention while learning so that we can relate what we have learned back to the prior idea i have about the intention and only consolidate the information i believed to be Relevant to my prior knowledge Eg, i have 12 chapters worth of content about electricity, magnetism and waves So my intention to read will be " transfer of energy (electricity) as waves and it's physical influence" and I'll read the parts which are low effort by using Non linear note taking for tracking my thoughts and Order control taught by Justin Am i correct?

    I want you to know that I plan to take study techniques courses to improve my grades and my time studying, learning affectively in the long term, I have reviewed several videos and platforms and found 2 that convinced me because of their quality, these are cajun koi academy that has a course called study quest and justing sung with his icantudy course, the latter is expensive in relation to dollars and is in English, but offers discount scholarships to people with poor economic situations. I tell you that recently I am going to have a new little brother and with this the economic situation of my parents will be affected, I already showed them the courses that I want to take but my parents did not say yes or no but for the moment it is under discussion, besides the fact that we do not have a credit card and my country has a shortage of dollars and I do not know if my parents will accept. I would like you to tell me your opinion on this matter with my current situation, and give me some advice since I am about to finish my first semester in medicine and I will have a month off, but the second semester will be more difficult and that is why I wanted to take these courses.

    • @ishrakmujibift4269
      @ishrakmujibift4269 8 днів тому

      You can still do great without the courses. There is enough information in youtube. But it is hectic. It took me 6 months to get to a place where I'm satisfied with my learning and there is still a lot to grow. For now, apply some of the principle taught in the videos one by one and try to buy the icanstudy course, even if it is expensive, in the long term it will be worth it I hope.

      @@ishrakmujibift4269 How do you recommend I watch and apply the videos? Could you tell me how you did it? The only thing I have at my disposal is a laptop and a notebook. I'm from Bolivia so an iPad is a luxury here, but I still see that it's a requirement at icanstudy. Taking that into account, what would you recommend? In what order should I watch the videos?

    • @ishrakmujibift4269
      @ishrakmujibift4269 4 дні тому

      @@mijaelmarcelovillarroelchu6513 Well, you can start from the recent videos. Videos focusing on bloom's taxonomy and higher order learning would be a good start. You can then watch archer newton's videos on inquiry based learning and start applying that, focusing on higher order questions like, "why is it important? How is it related to other things i've learned and the big picture?" Then you could watch videos on non-linear notetaking. If you don't have an Ipad, that's fine. Use your phone or a tablet along with a stylus. You can also watch videos on priming and order control (the recent video where justin talks about ladder method and cramming). But the important part is don't watch 'em back to back. These techniques are REALLY HARD and making errors are guranteed! So, you would want to take it slow and make sure you stick to it. Even in one video there is a lot to unpack. For example while trying higher order learning rather than trying to connect, evaluate and group info at the same time, just start by only applying stuff first. Use non-linear note-taking that only meets two of the criteria of a good mind-map, rather than trying to be perfect at the start. This will reduce overwhelm and ensure you do everything correctly. Believe me, I tried rushing everything and it just made everything slow and worse, where taking it slowly and challenging myself enough made me become better.

    • @ishrakmujibift4269
      @ishrakmujibift4269 4 дні тому

      @@mijaelmarcelovillarroelchu6513 Another thing you want to keep in mind, the techniques aren't the bottleneck, the thought process is. The techniques are there for you to engage in the right kind of thought processes. So focus on upgrading and refining your thought processes by trying to relate, evaluate, chunk, simplify, recall information. Add them to your systen one by one. There is a lot to go through, so again, take your time, make the mistakes, come back and fix them. It is well worth it. Hope the best for ya!

    Would such a mind map be beneficial first subjects like psychology where a lot of detail/facts have to be memorised or known

    • @ArcherNewton
      @ArcherNewton 6 днів тому

      Subjects like biology and psychology work great with a technique like this. When we’re able to more deeply understand why a concept or definition is the way it is, the memorisation comes naturally rather than having to be rote learnt which puts it at far greater risk of being misremembered later

    I tried doing mind maps for medical topics. However, how do you revise a mind map? do you try to remember the map itself so that you can technically reproduce it? or is it just meant to be created in a way, you never need to go over the topic again because you learnt it so well?..

      Enzymes are usually named based on the reaction that they catalyze, like hexokinase in glucose to G6P. In this reaction, "hexo-" means hexose, or glucose in this case, and "-kinase" is indicative of a phosphorylation reaction involving ATP. Just break 'em down, and it will be really easy to understand. You can notice this relationship when you break the word down during the mind mapping process, which I did during my biochemistry class. And you can easily see the relationship start showing up like the one I mentioned.

    Thanks again Archer Newton ❤ now I feel like I understand this ( learning system stuff ) I thought that just need to rote memorize, active recall, space repetition and all but I didn’t know this until now. Maybe this is how high achiever because they have the mindset and intention on using this information? I didn’t know myself on how to process the learning system, because of the ( keep using active recall, space repetition, and past paper, etc and all that ) but it doesn’t give much benefit of retrieval and when the curveball question came in, I know I am doom. Anyway this is helpful on my new perspective on learning which is “make mistakes and learn from them and keep learning” I think? And thank you again honestly 🙏🫡🙏🇰🇭
